You are required to choose ONE of the FIVE case studies outlined below and provide a detailed needs analysis of the sport. From this conclude the most appropriate strength and conditioning requirements for a training programme. Your essay should be no more than 1000 words (not including tables); this will count for 40% of your final grade:
1. The athlete is a 27 year old female playing for Wasp’s premiership netball team as a centre 2. The athlete is a 21 year old female football player for Chelsea 3. The athlete is a, male, 400 m hurdler competing at the county championships 4. The athlete is a, male, national 50 m freestyle swimmer 5. The athlete is a, 25 year old male, county cricket fast bowler

Formatting and submission guidelines | The essay should consist of the following sections:
1. Introduce the sport 2. Detail the physiological, biomechanical and injury aspects of the sport 3. Outline appropriate training modalities based on your needs analysis

The report should be written in the third person. The page margins should be standard (i.e. 2.54 cm top, bottom, left & right). A maximum of 1000 words are allowed for the report (not including tables, figures and the reference list). All pages should be: 1.5 line spacing; 12 size font; Times New Roman text.
MARKING PENALTIES WILL BE ENFORCED SHOULD STUDENTS FAIL TO ADHERE TO THE GUIDELINES
General Report Guidelines: In addition to the generic marking scheme the marking criteria will also include: The clarity and style with which the essay is written •The ability to reference accurately with names and dates •Your ability to answer the question posed rather than the one you would have liked to have been asked •Ability to provide appropriate justification for your assessment and exercise choices – this is not stating the obvious but indicating your knowledge (e.g., defining terms)

60–69 | As below plus: ● A very good, well-presented piece of work covering much of the subject matter and which is clearly and lucidly written. 50–59 | As below plus: ● Work that demonstrates understanding of the topic area with some attempt to discuss material. ● Evidence of research in the topic area extending beyond key texts. ● Satisfactory presentation and / or use of references / bibliography according to convention. ● A satisfactory attempt to follow directions regarding organisation, structure, use and flow of language, grammar, spelling, format, diagrams, tables etc. |
