Prior to beginning work on this discussion forum, read Chapters 4 and 5 from your course textbook, and complete the simulation and learning outcome in E.I. Games titled Group Dynamics.
How a team leader initiates a team and its first meeting can be instrumental to the success of the team. An initial dilemma that a team leader may face is deciding whether to first meet with the team collectively or meet with team members individually. After viewing the E.I. Games simulation, answering the questions, and watching the learning outcome, address the following from the perspective of a team leader:
- Explain why the first meeting of the team is important for the team’s success.
- Describe the approach you would implement to your initial meeting with your team: to meet collectively with its members or meet individually with its members.
- Explain the advantages and disadvantages of the approach you chose.

Meeting Format
How a team leader structures their meetings can impact both the dynamics of the team and overall team effectiveness. Team leaders can take a more authoritative role over their team or the leader can take a more hands-off approach. After viewing the Meeting Format E.I. Games simulation, answering the questions, watching the learning outcome, and reading the two hypothetical emails in the question, address the following from the perspective of a team leader:
- Describe why the meeting format set by the team leader is important to team success.
- Explain which meeting format, as set out in the two emails in the question, you would select and why you selected that approach.
- Analyze the advantages and disadvantages of using the meeting format you selected.
