OVERVIEW: HNB2105, Assessment 2: Essay
Students are required to write a structured essay on the following topic:
Psychotropic medications play an important role in the treatment of psychiatric disorders. Choose one of the psychotropic classification groups, (anti-anxiety, antidepressant, mood stabilising, and antipsychotic) and discuss and explore the following points:
Identify and describe the psychotropic medication classification group chosen and the psychiatric disorders for which they are used.
Describe the pharmacological principles, i.e. safe administration of medication, and relevant legal and ethical issues.
Identify actions, use, side effects and precautions related to chosen psychotropic medication class.
- Consider the role of the nurse, in the administration of psychotropic medications and related interventions;
safe medication administration - interactions, side effects and precautions o promoting medication adherence
- consumer education
- assessment and monitoring of physical health
Identify from the literature, the consumers’ and carers’ perspectives, and or lived experience research relating to the topic.
Your essay should include the following:
Review and critically analyse the literature.
Use high-level quality contemporary evidence-based literature (i.e. peer reviewed journals) to inform the discussion and critical analysis.
Length (Word limit)
1200 words including in-text citations (but excluding words contained in the reference section).

Assessment Criteria
This assessment relates to the unit learning outcomes: 6, 9, 10.
Your essay should be structured as follows:
Introduction
Start by setting the context and providing relevant background information. Include a thesis statement that is a response to the essay question, and that
summarises the main aim or argument of the essay.
Outline the main ideas to be discussed in the essay, in the order they appear in the body of the essay.
Body
Each paragraph should cover a single idea expressed in a topic sentence, followed by supporting evidence and examples from contemporary academic literature, including peer-reviewed journal articles.
Conclusion: A summary of your appraisal.
Restate your thesis and sum up your arguments
All written assessments must align to the following academic standards:
use high-level quality contemporary evidence-based literature to inform the discussion and critical analysis, date of evidence within ten years;
use of the third person, unless specifically indicated otherwise; APA 7th edition for in-text citations and reference list;
the following structure: an introduction, body and conclusion or as per directions in the assessment instructions;
adherence to the word count; ten percent allowed either side of word count; a 12 size font in either Arial, Times New Roman or Calibri;
1.5 line spacing; and
submitted using an MS word document only.
All assessments should have a title page that specifies:

An accurate word count that includes in-text citations, but excludes the reference section at the end of the essay
