Describe the challenges in collecting data and making observations in the methane study on Mars.

• The observed seasonal variability of CH₄ is incompatible with the standard models for the physics and chemistry of the martian atmosphere.
• The observed bursts of CH₄ demand thus far unknown sources and/or modulation mechanisms on Mars.
