Criminal laws vary widely throughout the world. What may be a “crime” in one country may represent permissible conduct in another country? Why do you think there are such vast global differences in this regard? Answer this question in 300 words
Crime is the act committed to violating the existing law or omitting to violate the law prohibiting it. Criminal law is a legal system body applying to crime. Whenever a person fails to abide by the laid criminal laws is refereed to have committed a criminal offense. Criminal law is divided into two namely: misdemeanor and felony. Misdemeanor offenses are considered petty such as traffic offenses and minor thefts. The penalty against such is less and light. On the other hand, felony offenses are considered to be gross and attract a heavy penalty. Despite the common definition and types, criminal laws vary across the world. What is considered a crime in one country or jurisdiction may not be a crime in another.
The difference in social attitudes and changing times is one of the reasons behind this variation. This is so because different countries have different social attitudes and social adoption of practices. An example of a law that has changed over time is on abortion. It was prohibited except in most unavoidable circumstances. It is however lawful now in most countries. The adoption of this change did not happen to all the countries at once, rather different countries have different adoption rates. An example of a law that is different among countries due to social attitudes in homosexuality. It is lawful in private among adults who have consent in many Western countries. However, homosexuality is a serious offense in some other countries. In some cases, an act is considered criminal by nations but a difference occurs in the penalty given by the countries. For example, India and Bangladesh have historical similarities and consider murder as a crime. However, there is a big difference in the penalty given to a murderer in Bangladesh and India. The murderer in India gets a lighter penalty compared to Bangladesh.
